I have been screwing around quite a bit lately with Adobe Illustrator. I started drawing again and decided to jump into the digital realm of design and art. I have lots of experience with the Adobe design programs, but never put them to use for any of my own pleasure. I am still learning and I’m also trying to develop my own style which is tough as hell! I have been exposed to so much great art over the years that I may be slightly influenced by the likes of other artists. Maybe with more practice and a sense of direction I might stumble onto my own creative style. I think the first order of business is to invest in a Wacom digital tablet. All of the art and logos that put together in the last 2 months have been created with a mouse. Drawing with a mouse is difficult and I think it restricts my creativity. Ok, its not just difficult, it just down right sucks!
The other day I decided to join Emptees and submit my first design. I know absolutely nothing about t-shirt design, but I thought I would give it a try anyway. Emptees is a site where artists can upload their designs and share them with other members and also possibly sell their art to someone in the market for that type of design. Whether it be for a small t-shirt company or for your favorite metal band. I guess the possibilities are endless. My design is based on a simple skull that I drew in Illustrator. I added a few elements of circuitry and grunge and it reminded me a lot of a band called Preternatural, so I slapped on their band logo and called it good. Here is the end result…

This image is just 3 skulls that I put together with a few generic background elements because I totally drew a blank and could not think of anything else to add. That is something else I need to work on. I tend to just start on something with little or no idea where I am headed. Seems to waste a shit ton of time when you go that route.
I decided I should come up with a handle to go by since my name is kind of already well know. Thanks to my parents I have battled through life with the name, Charlie Brown. Oh well, so hear is what I came up with. Its a nickname from when I was a small child. I threw this together in about an hour. Yep, you can tell too?
I will probably revisit this and try a littler harder. Here is a color version as well. I have never applied color to anything yet, so I thought I would dabble with Photoshop a bit and see what happens.
This next design is a t-shirt idea that I came up with. Its not completely original, but I thought what the hell! I got a pretty good response from people about this one.
Here is another skull that I drew and added the same shit that I can’t seem to get away from.
Well, that’s about it for now. I will have more stuff to post in the coming months.
I love your art. I think you already have your own style. I can see it. Keep doing it and you will grow as an artist with every piece you do. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Heather! You are very supportive and I couldn't do it without you.
